Bram Stoker is the godfather of the vampire craze, but the writer is often a mystery to modern readers. Here are 9 facts you probably don't know about the author.

5. The first adaptation of 'Dracula' preceded the book itself, then multiplied into more than 300 film adaptations

Unlike most adaptations, which typically appear years after the novel on which they are based, the theatrical adaptation of 鈥淒racula鈥 was written by Stoker himself and presented before the novel鈥檚 publication. It debuted at the Lyceum Theatre where Stoker worked under the title, 鈥淒racula, or The Undead,鈥 and was performed only once.

Following that first theatrical adaptation, and of course, the novel itself, came a flood of Dracula-inspired films. The Internet Movie Database estimates some 217 films have been released featuring Dracula in a main role and some 300 , foreign and domestic, inspired by Dracula.
