The 1991 movie was directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise and follows Belle, a young woman living in a poor provincial town who dreams of something more and meets a fearsome beast when he takes her father captive.
The film currently holds the distinction of being the only animated movie ever nominated for a Best Picture Oscar when only five movies were nominated (the Academy now nominates between five and 10).
"Beast" is dedicated to its composer, Howard Ashman, who died before the movie made its debut.
