You've got to give Pamela Anderson her props.
Some media outlets managed to avoid the Baywatch running jokes and most focused on Anderson's ability to complete the New York City Marathon in an impressive time of less than six hours (5:41:03 to be precise) 鈥 without any marathon training.
But there's another stat about this event that most media ignored: $76,000.
That's what Anderson's 26.2 mile trot raised for Hollywood celebrity Sean Penn's J/P Haitian Relief Organization, according to the group's fundraising page on Crowdrise.com.
The J/P HRO was started shortly after the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti. According to the group's site:
Mr. Penn's organization also brought five runners from Haiti to participate in the race, and each of them also raised more than $16,000 each.
Of course, these runners were hardly the only one's running for charities during Sunday's race. More than 50,000 runners participated and there were dozens of charities represented.
Among the other celebrity runners were model Christy Turlington Burns, who ran for Every Mother Counts, a campaign she founded to reduce deaths related to pregnancy and childbirth caused by limited access to medical care.
鈥淚 love running, and this is such a natural fit for my charity鈥檚 specific issue 鈥 in that 26.2 miles is very close to the average distance that women in some countries travel for emergency medical care,鈥 said Turlington, according to the New York Daily News.
Bill Rancic, winner of the first "The Apprentice" TV show, raised $30,000, according to a post on his wife Giuliana's Twitter account. Timex pledged to donate $1 to Giuliana Rancic鈥檚 Fab-U-Wish charity for every runner her husband passed. Rancic's marathon time? 4:57:23, according to CBS News.
