The CW show 鈥淟egends of Tomorrow鈥 will air extra episodes, as the network continues to sport a new identity as the home of hit DC superhero shows with the addition this fall of the program 鈥淪upergirl.鈥澛
There will be four extra installments of 鈥淟egends of Tomorrow,鈥 which centers on a group of superheroes, many of whom were previously seen on the CW shows 鈥淎rrow鈥 and 鈥淭he Flash.鈥 There were originally 13 ordered.
鈥淟egends鈥 debuted earlier this year and is one of four superhero shows now airing on the CW. First was 鈥淎rrow,鈥 which is the story of the superhero Green Arrow, in 2012. It was followed by 鈥淭he Flash鈥 in 2014.聽
鈥淪upergirl,鈥 based on the character of the same name, debuted on CBS last fall, but moved to the CW for this fall TV season.聽聽(All the characters on these shows are based on characters that appear in publications from DC Comics.)聽
These superhero programs are now arguably the defining feature of the CW network, with 鈥淭he Flash鈥 and 鈥淪upergirl鈥 currently ranking as the highest- and second-highest-rated shows on the network, according to the website TVLine. 鈥淎rrow鈥 ties for third place with the program 鈥淪upernatural.鈥澛
And critics seem to mostly be happy with 鈥淪upergirl鈥 this season.
Joshua Rivera of Vulture wrote of the most recent episode, 鈥淚t's a terrific hour of 鈥楽upergirl鈥 鈥 It's pretty remarkable how the episode introduces compelling yet succinct story arcs for 鈥楽upergirl鈥's main cast members 鈥 even a few neglected ones 鈥 while making them all feel tonally appropriate and complementary 鈥 It's all so well done that I don't really mind that this week's villains 鈥 are pretty lame.鈥
And Entertainment Weekly writer Chancellor Agard compared 鈥淪upergirl鈥 favorably to the other superhero CW shows on the air right now, writing, 鈥淪o far, 鈥楽upergirl鈥 may be the strongest Arrowverse show on the air right now: It鈥檚 hitting new beats, it鈥檚 extremely confident, and most importantly, it鈥檚 trying to be about something.鈥 However, Mr. Agard noted, 鈥淗owever, if there鈥檚 one problem so far this season, it鈥檚 that there鈥檚 too much going on in every week.鈥
