A new trailer has been released for the upcoming boxing movie 鈥淐reed.鈥

That name sound familiar? Yes, it鈥檚 based in the world of 鈥淩ocky,鈥 the boxer portrayed by Sylvester Stallone who faces off with his famous opponent Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). In this movie, it鈥檚 Creed's son (鈥淔antastic Four鈥 actor Michael B. Jordan) who鈥檚 learning how to step into the ring, and it looks like none other than Rocky himself will be helping him out.

The new trailer starts off portraying the story of Mr. Jordan鈥檚 character as a normal boxing story until he鈥檚 looking at a row of pictures. 鈥淚 heard about a third fight between you and Apollo,鈥 Jordan鈥檚 character Adonis Johnson says. 鈥淏ehind closed doors. That true?鈥 Rocky emerges from the shadows. 鈥淗ow do you know all this?鈥 he asks. 鈥淚鈥檓 his son,鈥 Adonis replies.聽

The film co-stars 鈥淰eronica Mars鈥 actress Tessa Thompson, Graham McTavish of 鈥淥utlander,鈥 and Phylicia Rashad of 鈥淭he Cosby Show.鈥澛

Anyone who鈥檚 gone to the movie theater recently knows that reboots are nothing new (witness, in only the last month, 鈥淛urassic World鈥 and 鈥淭erminator Genisys鈥). But picking the right star-on-the-rise to be the new kid on the block in the movie could be the key to success. 鈥淛urassic,鈥 which has broken box office records and shows no signs from coming down from the top of the box office, stars 鈥淕uardians of the Galaxy鈥 breakout Chris Pratt, who was praised by critics as 鈥渢remendously likeable鈥 and 鈥渆very bit the matinee idol.鈥 And there are few stars on the rise today like Jordan. He drew praise for his work in the 2013 drama 鈥淔ruitvale Station,鈥 for which the actor was nominated for prizes such as the Best Male Lead prize at the Independent Spirit Awards and the MTV Movie Awards Breakthrough Performance award. Buzzfeed called Jordan 鈥淗ollywood鈥檚 newest breakout star鈥 and Entertainment Weekly named him as one of their breakout stars for 2013.聽

This summer's "Mad Max: Fury Road" tried a similar strategy, bringing on critically acclaimed actor Tom Hardy to play the title role with previous franchise actor Mel Gibson nowhere in sight. Mr. Hardy won praise for his work in the 2010 movie "Inception" and has been on the rise since, starring in the superhero movie "The Dark Knight Rises" and in the Oscar-nominated movie "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy."

In previous decades, a new version of a beloved property would have needed its original star, and Stallone鈥檚 here for 鈥淐reed.鈥 But this trailer is all about star-on-the-rise Jordan.

"Creed" is scheduled to be released this November.
