Newcomers like 鈥淭he Affair鈥� and 鈥淪ilicon Valley鈥� made the cut for TV Golden Globe nominations, but some perennial favorites like 鈥淢ad Men鈥� and 鈥淢odern Family鈥� were left off the list of nominees this year.聽

The nominees for the Golden Globes Best TV Series, Drama category included such awards-season favorites as 鈥淕ame of Thrones,鈥� 鈥淒ownton Abbey,鈥� CBS鈥檚 鈥淭he Good Wife,鈥� and the series 鈥淗ouse of Cards.鈥� 鈥淭he Affair,鈥� which is currently airing its first season, made its first appearance on this list this year. However, previous nominees like 鈥淗omeland鈥� and 鈥淢asters of Sex鈥� did not make the list, nor did the perennial awards favorite 鈥淢ad Men鈥� or 聽HBO's 鈥淏oardwalk Empire,鈥� which recently ended its run.

For the Best TV Series, Comedy or Musical category, freshman show 鈥淛ane the Virgin鈥� earned a nod, as did 鈥淪ilicon Valley,鈥� which aired its first season this past spring, and 鈥淭ransparent,鈥� which debuted this fall. The show 鈥淥range Is the New Black鈥� made its first appearance here and previous nominee 鈥淕irls鈥� also made the list. However, last year鈥檚 winner, the show 鈥淏rooklyn Nine-Nine鈥� did not earn a nod, nor did usual awards-season darling 鈥淢odern Family.鈥�

The best actor in a drama series category also had a couple of new nominees 鈥� Clive Owen earned a nomination for his new show 鈥淭he Knick鈥� and Dominic West made the cut for 鈥淎ffair.鈥� 鈥淭he Blacklist鈥� actor James Spader made the list again, as did Liev Schreiber for the program 鈥淩ay Donovan鈥� and Kevin Spacey for 鈥淗ouse of Cards.鈥澛�

In the best actress in a drama TV series category, 鈥淗omeland鈥� actress Claire Danes, Robin Wright of 鈥淗ouse of Cards,鈥� and 鈥淭he Good Wife鈥� actress Julianna Margulies all returned. Ruth Wilson of 鈥淭he Affair鈥� and Viola Davis of "How To Get Away With Murder鈥澛燼ppeared on the list for the first time. 鈥淥rphan Black鈥� actress Tatiana Maslany missed the cut this year, as did Kerry Washington of 鈥淪candal.鈥澛�

For Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy, Louis C.K. of 鈥淟ouie鈥� and Don Cheadle of 鈥淗ouse of Lies鈥� returned to the category, and William H. Macy of 鈥淪hameless鈥� as well as 鈥淒erek鈥� actor Ricky Gervais appeared for the first time. Jeffrey Tambor of 鈥淭ransparent鈥� also was nominated for his work on the Amazon video show for the first time. Andy Samberg, last year鈥檚 winner, was not nominated 鈥� nor was usual awards favorite Jim Parsons of 鈥淭he Big Bang Theory.鈥�

The Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy category included reappearances by 鈥淕irls鈥� actress Lena Dunham, Julia Louis-Dreyfus of 鈥淰eep,鈥� and Edie Falco of 鈥淣urse Jackie.鈥� 鈥淛ane the Virgin鈥� actress Gina Rodriguez made the cut for the first time, as did Taylor Schilling of 鈥淥range Is the New Black鈥� (though she was nominated before for聽Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama when 鈥淥range鈥� was still entered as a drama). Last year鈥檚 winner, 鈥淧arks and Recreation鈥� actress Amy Poehler, was not nominated, nor was previous nominee Zooey Deschanel of 鈥淣ew Girl.鈥澛�

For the Golden Globes, the supporting categories are combined so anyone in a comedy or drama miniseries, TV show, or TV movie can qualify. For best supporting actor, Alan Cumming of 鈥淭he Good Wife鈥� appeared for the first time, as did Matt Bomer for 鈥淭he Normal Heart,鈥� Colin Hanks for 鈥淔argo,鈥� and Bill Murray for 鈥淥live Kitteridge.鈥� Jon Voight for 鈥淩ay Donovan鈥� was the sole previous nominee.

Meanwhile, for best supporting actress, Uzo Aduba appeared for the first time for 鈥淥range Is the New Black鈥� (though she previously won a Golden Globe for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series), as did Kathy Bates for 鈥淎merican Horror Story: Freak Show,鈥� Michelle Monaghan for 鈥淭rue Detective,鈥� 鈥淒ownton Abbey鈥� actress Joanne Froggatt, and Allison Janney for 鈥淢om.鈥� Previous winner Jessica Lange of 鈥淎merican Horror Story鈥� was not nominated.

The Golden Globes will air on Jan. 11.
