A trailer for Pixar鈥檚 upcoming movie 鈥淚nside Out鈥� has arrived.
More than half of the clip is made up of scenes from previous Pixar films like 鈥淭oy Story,鈥� 鈥淯p,鈥� 鈥淲ALL-E,鈥� and 鈥淔inding Nemo.鈥� 鈥淭here are emotions we have all shared,鈥� reads the trailer, naming feelings like 鈥渁nger鈥� and 鈥渄isgust.鈥� 鈥淓ver wonder where all those emotions really live?鈥澛�
鈥淚nside鈥� centers on Riley Anderson (Kaitlyn Dias), an 11-year-old whose family moves from the Midwest to San Francisco, according to Entertainment Weekly. As she tries to get used to her new home, Riley also attempts to comprehend her emotions. The movie鈥檚 writer and director, Pete Docter, who was also behind such Pixar movies as 鈥淯p鈥� and 鈥淢onsters, Inc.,鈥� said Riley 鈥渋s not our main character, she is our setting,鈥� according to Variety.聽
Riley鈥檚 emotions are represented by Joy (Amy Poehler), Anger (Lewis Black), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Bill Hader), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling). The movie has Joy and Sadness exploring Riley鈥檚 mind, finding such areas as 鈥淚magination Land, a giant amusement park full of everything Riley has ever daydreamed about,鈥� Docter said, according to Variety.
Docter said the movie itself is based more on imagination than on fact.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not even trying to be scientific at all,鈥� he said.
The director said he was inspired to make the movie by his daughter鈥檚 adolescence, saying that she became quieter when she turned 12.
聽鈥淭here is something that is lost when you grow up,鈥� Docter said.
Pixar鈥檚 movies 鈥淯p鈥� and 鈥淭oy Story 3鈥� were nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and many others of their movies, such as 鈥淢onsters, Inc.,鈥� 鈥淔inding Nemo,鈥� and 鈥淭he Incredibles,鈥� were critically acclaimed. Monitor film critic Peter Rainer was less impressed with some of the studio鈥檚 more recent films, calling 2011鈥檚 鈥淐ars 2鈥� 鈥渕arginally better than its predecessor鈥� but writing that 鈥渃ars just aren鈥檛 very interesting as anthropomorphic animation vehicles鈥� and writing of 2012鈥檚 鈥淏rave,鈥� 鈥淸it鈥檚] more conventional than that studio鈥檚 best work. It lacks the intricacy of imagination that made films like 'The Incredibles'聽and 'Finding Nemo'聽so exhilarating. On the other hand, it鈥檚 a whole lot better than the 'Cars'聽movies.鈥� However, Rainer was more won over by 2013鈥檚 鈥淢onsters University,鈥� a sequel to 鈥淢onsters, Inc.,鈥� calling the film 鈥渟portive and funny.鈥澛�
"Inside Out" will be released in June 2015.
