Will actor Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass return to the 鈥淏ourne鈥 movie franchise?

Universal 鈥渉as begun making deals鈥 with the two to make a new film, according to Deadline.

Damon starred in three 鈥淏ourne鈥 films, which are based on the books of the same name by author Robert Ludlum. Greengrass directed the second installment, 鈥淭he Bourne Supremacy,鈥 and the third, 鈥淭he Bourne Ultimatum.鈥 Both were the most critically acclaimed of the series, with 鈥淪upremacy鈥 holding a score of 73/100 on review aggregator website Metacritic and 鈥淯ltimatum鈥 earning an 85/100 (the first movie, 鈥淭he Bourne Identity,鈥 was directed by Doug Liman and holds a score of 68/100). 鈥淯ltimatum鈥 was also the highest-grossing film of the series. 鈥淭he Avengers鈥 actor Jeremy Renner starred in the fourth 鈥淏ourne鈥 film, 2012鈥檚 鈥淭he Bourne Legacy,鈥 as another agent, but the movie didn't gross as much as "Ultimatum," according to the website Box Office Mojo, with "Legacy" taking in more than $113 million domestically compared to the "Ultimatum" domestic gross of more than $227 million.

After 鈥淟egacy鈥 was released, Damon told the website Movieline, 鈥淚鈥檇 really love to do another one because I love the character, [but it's] a real struggle to extend the franchise鈥 [Bourne's search to] find his identity [is done, so] where do you go next?鈥澛

Neither Universal Pictures nor representatives for Damon and Greengrass would comment on the possible new plan, according to Deadline.

Universal Pictures is also working on a movie set in the same universe that would bring back Renner, according to Deadline, with Justin Lin of 鈥淔ast & Furious 6鈥 set to direct, but this new film could take the movie release date in July 2016 that was previously set aside for the film with Renner.

In his review of 鈥淯ltimatum,鈥 Monitor film critic Peter Rainer praised Damon鈥檚 performance as the title character.

鈥淏ourne is likely to remain his signature part for some time to come,鈥 he wrote of the actor. 鈥淲ithin its highly circumscribed limits the part fits him like a glove.鈥
