According to 鈥淭he Fault in Our Stars鈥 director Josh Boone, who says he鈥檚 helming a movie adaptation of Stephen King鈥檚 classic novel 鈥淭he Stand,鈥 the book could be adapted as four movies.
King鈥檚 lengthy book centers on the survivors of an illness that decimates the world. The survivors soon find they must contend with the evil Randall Flagg and his supporters.
Boone, whose film 鈥淔ault鈥 was well-received by critics this summer, spoke about the film on director Kevin Smith鈥檚 Babble-On podcast, according to Deadline.聽
First, 鈥淚 write [the script for a single film] in like five months, everybody loves it, King loves it, $87 million is what it was budgeted at, really expensive for a horror drama that doesn鈥檛 have set pieces,鈥 Boone said.
Then, 鈥淸Warner Bros.] asked, would you do this as multiple films,鈥 the director said. 鈥淚 said鈥 yes. I鈥檒l just say we are going to do four movies and we鈥檙e going to do聽鈥楾he Stand鈥櫬燼t the highest level you can do it at, with a cast that鈥檚 going to blow peoples鈥 minds. We鈥檝e already been talking to lots of people, and have people on board in certain roles that people don鈥檛 know about. We鈥檙e looking to go into production next year, maybe in the spring."聽
鈥淭he Stand鈥 was previously adapted as a 1994 miniseries that starred Molly Ringwald, Gary Sinise, Rob Lowe, and Ruby Dee.聽
