Stephen King's '11/22/63' will be adapted as a Hulu miniseries

King's novel centers on a man who goes back in time to try to stop the Kennedy assassination.

Stephen King鈥檚 novel聽鈥11/22/63鈥 is being adapted as a TV miniseries by Hulu.聽

According to the Los Angeles Times, a nine-hour series based on King鈥檚 book, which was first released in 2011, will be released by 鈥淪tar Wars鈥 director J.J. Abrams鈥檚 production company and will air on the streaming service. 鈥淧arenthood鈥 writer Bridget Carpenter will adapt the novel for the screen.

鈥淚f I ever wrote a book that cries out for long-form, event TV programming, 鈥11/22/63鈥 is it,鈥 King said in a statement, according to the Los Angeles Times.聽

鈥11/22/63鈥 centers on a high school teacher who travels back in time in an attempt to stop the Kennedy assassination.

鈥淛.J. Abrams and Stephen King are two of the most celebrated storytellers of our time, and we are excited to be working with them and Warner Bros. Television to bring this unique take on one of the most seminal historic events of the 20th century to Hulu," Hulu head of content and senior vp聽Craig Erwich聽said in a statement, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "11/22/63聽already resonated with audiences as a best-selling novel, and we are looking forward to bringing the riveting story to the screen.鈥

鈥淚鈥檝e been a fan of Stephen King since I was in junior high school,鈥 Abrams said in a statement, according to the Hollywood Reporter. 鈥淭he chance to work with him at all, let alone on a story so compelling, emotional and imaginative, is a dream. We are thrilled to be working with Hulu on this very special project.鈥

In his review of 鈥11/22/63,鈥 Monitor writer Erik Spanberg called the novel 鈥渁 piece of time-traveling historical fiction that makes the what-if game intensely personal and terrifyingly broad all at once鈥. [it鈥檚 a] classic King tale: an ordinary man engulfed in the most extraordinary of circumstances鈥 King, a 64-year-old Baby Boomer, has a 鈥楳ad Men鈥-style ball satirizing the past鈥. [there鈥檚] a finale that makes 11/22/63 a date well worth keeping.鈥
