'American Gods' to be adapted for TV by Starz

'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman portrays a battle between old and new gods.

An adaptation of Neil Gaiman鈥檚 fantasy novel 鈥淎merican Gods鈥 is reportedly moving forward.

The network Starz will air a series version of Gaiman鈥檚 novel, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Bryan Fuller, the creator of NBC鈥檚 series 鈥淗annibal鈥 and Michael Green, executive producer of the ABC show 鈥淭he River,鈥 will reportedly serve as showrunners and Gaiman will executive-produce the adaptation.

鈥淚 can't wait to see what they do to bring the story to the widest possible audience able to cope with it,鈥 Gaiman said of the team behind the project, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

鈥淣eil Gaiman has created the holiest of holy toy boxes with聽American Gods聽and filled it with all manner of magical thing, born of new gods and old,鈥 Fuller said in a statement reported in Entertainment Weekly. 鈥淢ichael Green and I are thrilled to crack this toy box wide open and unleash the fantastical titans of heaven and earth and Neil鈥檚 vividly prolific imagination

A TV adaptation of 鈥淎merican Gods鈥 had been in the works before at HBO, which put a series based on the novel into development but later abandoned the idea.聽

鈥淎merican Gods鈥 was first published in 2001 and follows protagonist Shadow Moon, who is a witness to a battle between old and new gods.聽

Starz is airing a TV adaptation of another novel, 鈥淥utlander鈥 by Diana Gabaldon, this August.聽
