HBO adapts 'The Normal Heart' for TV 鈥 check out the trailer

The HBO adaptation of 'The Normal Heart' stars Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, and Jim Parsons.

A trailer has been released for the upcoming HBO adaptation of the Tony Award-winning play 鈥淭he Normal Heart.鈥

鈥淭he Normal Heart鈥 follows the beginnings of the AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s. The play was written by Larry Kramer, based largely on his own life. The play opened Off-Broadway in 1985 and was performed in London and Los Angeles. It opened on Broadway in 2011 and won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play as well as the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play (John Benjamin Hickey) and Best Featured Actress in a Play (Ellen Barkin.)

The film version stars Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Matt Bomer, and Jim Parsons, who is reprising the role he played on Broadway in 2011.

The movie version of 鈥淭he Normal Heart鈥 is directed by 鈥淕lee鈥 and 鈥淎merican Horror Story鈥 co-creator Ryan Murphy. It鈥檚 scheduled to air on HBO on May 25 and HBO is already developing a sequel.
