'Hollow City,' the sequel to Ransom Riggs's 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children,' arrives on Jan. 14.
Author Ransom Riggs will return to the world of his bestselling young adult novel 鈥淢iss Peregrine鈥檚 Home for Peculiar Children鈥 with a sequel titled 鈥淗ollow City鈥 which will hit shelves this January.
鈥淢iss Peregrine鈥 was released in 2011 and told the story of Jacob, a boy who travels to Wales and learns more about his grandfather鈥檚 life as well as a building believed to be abandoned but which instead is home to the titular 鈥減eculiar children.鈥
A movie adaptation of 鈥淢iss Peregrine鈥 is planned and 鈥淒ark Shadows鈥 director Tim Burton is reportedly on board to direct.
Riggs said he felt that he left many opportunities for a new story open when he finished writing 鈥淢iss Peregrine.鈥
鈥淚鈥檓 probably misquoting Chekhov鈥檚 dramatic adage saying if there鈥檚 a gun hanging on the wall, you鈥檇 better make it fire by the third chapter,鈥 Riggs told Publishers Weekly. 鈥淚 felt like there were a lot of guns still there for me to fire.鈥
The author said he feels that the sequel is an opportunity to discover more about Jacob鈥檚 friends, children who have strange powers and who came to live in Miss Peregrine鈥檚 home.
'鈥淚n book one, I took Jacob out of his comfort zone and tested his character,鈥 Riggs said. 鈥淚n 'Hollow City,' I鈥檓 taking all the characters out of the lives they鈥檝e been secure in for years and plunging them into the unknown. That鈥檚 how you really get to know them.鈥
The writer is currently penning a third installment in the series.
鈥淗ollow City鈥 will be published on Jan. 14.
