Kate DiCamillo's 'Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane' will be directed by Robert Zemeckis

Zemeckis has also directed such films aimed at children such as 'The Polar Express' and 'A Christmas Carol.'

鈥淭he Polar Express鈥 director Robert Zemeckis will be helming a film adaptation of author Kate DiCamillo鈥檚 book 鈥淭he Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane,鈥 according to Variety.

The book, which was released in 2006 and is illustrated by Bagram Ibatoulline, centers on a conceited china rabbit named Edward Tulane who is separated from his doting young owner. He must learn humility and the importance of loving others as he becomes acquainted with such people as a fisherman and a very ill young girl.

鈥淭ulane鈥 captured the Boston Globe-Horn Book Fiction Award, which is bestowed on a children鈥檚 or young adult book, in 2006.

The novel was adapted for the screen by 鈥淏ridge to Terabithia鈥 writer Jeff Stockwell.

Zemeckis was also behind such films as 鈥淔light,鈥 鈥淎 Christmas Carol,鈥 and 鈥淐ast Away.鈥

DiCamillo鈥檚 other works include 鈥淔lora & Ulysses,鈥 which was released this past September, 鈥淏ecause of Winn-Dixie,鈥 and 鈥淭he Tale of Despereaux,鈥 which was also adapted into a film in 2006 with voice work by Matthew Broderick and Emma Watson.
