'The Book Thief' movie adaptation gets a trailer

'The Book Thief' stars Sophie N茅lisse, Geoffrey Rush, and Emily Watson. It's based on the bestselling novel by Markus Zusak.

The film adaptation of Markus Zusak鈥檚 bestselling novel 鈥淭he Book Thief鈥 has gotten a trailer.

鈥淭hief,鈥 which takes place in Germany during World War II, stars Sophie N茅lisse as Liesel Meminger, a young girl who is taken in by Hans Hubermann (Geoffrey Rush) and his wife (Emily Watson). The Hubermanns give shelter to a young man named Max Vandenburg (Ben Schnetzer) who is Jewish. The movie is directed by Brian Percival of 鈥淒ownton Abbey.鈥

The trailer shows Liesel arriving at her new home and Hans teaching her to read. Liesel bonds with her foster father and, later, Max, over books. Meanwhile, the family experiences the pressures of living in Nazi Germany as they continue to try to hide Max.

鈥淲ords are life, Liesel,鈥 Max tells her.

鈥淭hief鈥 was first released in 2006 and has experienced very strong sales ever since, currently occupying the fourth spot on the New York Times Young Adult bestseller list.聽
