The first trailer for the film adaptation of Cassandra Clare鈥檚 book 鈥淭he Mortal Instruments: City of Bones鈥� shows many of the major characters from the book and the dangerous world they live in.
鈥淏ones鈥� follows Clary Fray, a teenage girl living in New York City who goes to a club called the Pandemonium one evening and glimpses a group of people killing someone in the middle of the crowded room. Only Clary is able to see the murderers, which include a boy named Jace, and she soon discovers that the group are all Shadowhunters, people who work to defeat evil supernatural creatures that normal people can鈥檛 see.
The series currently consists of five books, with a sixth due next March, and the movie adaptation of the first novel stars 鈥淢irror Mirror鈥� actress Lily Collins as Clary and 鈥淗arry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One鈥� actor Jamie Campbell-Bower as Jace.
The trailer begins with Hodge Starkweather (鈥淪herlock Holmes: Game of Shadows鈥� actor Jared Harris), Jace and the other Shadowhunters鈥� teacher, telling Clary about the supernatural world.
鈥淓verything you鈥檝e heard about monsters, about nightmares, legends whispered around campfires, all the stories are true,鈥� Harris says.
The next scene shows Clary screaming as she sees Jace and others attacking someone in the Pandemonium Club. Her best friend, Simon (Robert Sheehan), asks her what鈥檚 going on, having seen nothing.
Jace tells Clary that she can see him because she鈥檚 not a 鈥渕undane,鈥� someone from the human world with no powers.
鈥淚f I鈥檓 not human, then what am I?鈥� she demands.
Quick glimpses show Jace fighting demons and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Valentine Morgenstern, a Shadowhunter who is also the series鈥� villain.
鈥淪he鈥檚 going to get us all killed,鈥� Alec Lightwood (鈥淕ossip Girl鈥� actor Kevin Zegers) tells Jace of (presumably) Clary.
Other actors on board for the movie includes Lena Headey of 鈥淕ame of Thrones鈥� as Clary鈥檚 mother, Jocelyn, and actress Jemima West as Alec鈥檚 sister and fellow Shadowhunter Isabelle Lightwood.
