Hand to Mouth: Living in Bootstrap America, by Linda Tirado, chronicles her life at the poverty level. Tirado is very forthright in describing the incredibly difficult situation of the working poor and the feelings engendered by the struggle to make ends meet. Her book is a real eye-opener.
