Reader recommendation: Fall of Giants

By Jeanne Comeford, St. Paul, Minn.

Fall of Giants, the first of Ken Follett's "Century" trilogy, pulled me in the same day I found it in a little library. The book's length looks daunting, but the story moves fast. I love the contrast of cultures, the many characters and their relationships, and the way Follett puts in exact specific detail to make history visible. Because of reading this book I can imagine a miner's life in Wales, suffragettes in Britain, a young aide to President Wilson, and soldiers on both sides during World War I.
