I've been surprised and often delighted by an unusual new book, AmalgaNations: How Globalisation is Good by Australian journalist Doug Hendrie. It's an upbeat, very human look at how other cultures process Western culture and turn it into something new – familiar and yet not. The book is peopled with great characters, from Indonesian punks to African DIY filmmakers to professional Korean videogame players.
