Jones Beach, Early Autumn

Ìý The families have crossed
Ìýthe summer portal,
Ìýleaving the rocky edge
Ìýwashed clean,
Ìýwater table set for us with broth
Ìýof kelp tangles, mussels, razor-edged clams,
Ìýscent of generously salted earth.
ÌýI plant my feet in cool
Ìýdepths of sand to watch
Ìýthe tide inch back
Ìýhome again.
