I persist in believing that Melissa McCarthy is capable of starring in a聽movie that not only makes a scads of money but is 鈥 you know 鈥 good.

The latest refutation of my belief is 鈥淭he Boss,鈥 in which she plays a chief executive officer gorgon who gets thrown in the can for insider trading and emerges not聽wiser, exactly, but slightly cuddlier.聽Along with a former employee, played blandly by Kristen Bell, she聽engineers a new enterprise selling brownies via a middle school聽girls鈥 troop conspicuously not named the Girl Scouts. The Scouts聽organization must have read the script.鈥 鈥婫rade:聽D (Rated R for sexual content, language and brief drug use.)
