Before Occupy Wall Street: American protests

In 1918, Congress passed what became, when it was ratified in 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment, which prohibited state and federal agencies from gender-based restrictions on voting. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton drafted the amendment and first introduced it in 1878.
