Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and we鈥檝e always been transparent about that.

The church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

04/07/2014 12:00 am ET Letters to the Editor for the April 7, 2014 weekly magazine: If it weren't for immigrants America would be in sad shape. Too many 'natives' are more interested in texting, celebrities, sports heroes, fighting over abortion and contraceptive rights, and denying global warming and evolution than promoting and improving education. Many US colleges are funded by American taxpayers, and their first responsibility is to educate, inspire, and create opportunity for American youth. Should we be focusing on finding foreign talent, rather than recruiting and developing the talent of our own youth?

06/24/2022 10:55 am ET The Supreme Court ruled that abortion is not protected by the U.S. Constitution, opening the door for states to ban the practice. The court鈥檚 vote to overturn Roe v. Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women鈥檚 Health Organization, which came in a 6-3 decision, ends 50 years of abortion as a constitutional right. Former President Donald Trump鈥檚 three appointees joined the majority.

One of the best ways to fight world hunger is to combat population growth through empowering women with family planning and contraception resources.
