Poland plane crash: Prosecutors open criminal probe into parachuting crash

Polish prosecutors opened a criminal investigation Sunday into a聽plane聽crash聽that killed 11 people 鈥 parachuting instructors and students and the pilot of the聽plane.
The Piper Navajo聽plane聽was carrying 12 people when it聽crashed聽and burst into flames in an orchard Saturday just minutes after taking off from Rudniki Airport in southern聽Poland. One person was also injured. Identities of nine of the victims are pending DNA testing.
Tomasz Ozimek, a spokesman for the prosecutor in Czestochowa, said the criminal investigation aimed to determine whether foul play was involved in the聽crash.
Ozimek said investigators were also looking at possible聽plane聽malfunction, human error or irregularities in the organization of the training flight.
The incident is聽Poland's聽worst civilian聽plane聽accident in several years. In 2010,聽Poland's聽President Lech Kaczynski and 95 other top officials were killed when the Polish president's聽plane聽crashed聽in Russia.
