Deathbed confession reveals location of Nazi train that might contain gold

A Nazi train rumored to be filled with gold, gems, and weapons when it went missing in southwestern Poland during World War II, has been discovered, according to a Polish official.
Poland's national heritage conservation officer Piotr Zuchowski announced that he has seen images captured by ground-penetrating radar which seem to prove the existence of the train and he is 鈥渕ore than 99 percent certain that this train exists.鈥
Mr. Zuchowski told a press conference on Friday that a man who was involved in the operation to hide the gold train made a deathbed confession about its location,
According to Polish lore, a German train loaded with聽gold and weapons vanished near the city of Walbrzych in 1945, as the Germans fled the Soviet advance.
For many years, treasure hunters have searched for the armored聽Nazi聽train. During the country's Communist era, the Polish army and security services .
Last week two men, believed to be a Pole and a German, claimed to聽have found the long-lost German military train, and said through their lawyers that as a reward.
Zuchowski described the discovery as 鈥 absolutely unprecedented." 鈥淭he train is 100 meters long and is protected. The fact that it is armored indicates it has a special cargo,鈥 he said.
Though its contents remain unknown, Zuchowski said, 鈥減robably military equipment but also possibly jewelry, works of art and archive documents.鈥
He added that 鈥渨hatever is on the train will be returned to the rightful owners, if they can be found.鈥
In a statement earlier this week, Zuchowski warned fortune hunters who flocked to the area to stop searching for the train, saying .
"In connection with the published information referring to the find of the so-called gold train in the region of Walbrzych, an increase in the activity of treasure hunters has been observed," he added. "I am appealing to people to stop any such searches until the end of official procedures leading to the securing of the find."
"Inside the hidden train 鈥 of whose existence I am convinced 鈥 there could be dangerous materials from the time of the Second World War. There is a great chance that the train is mined," Zuchowski said.
