World rankings: top 10 universities around the globe

Britain's leading higher education publication, The Times Higher Education, today released its 2012 reputation rankings for universities worldwide. Here is a list of the top 10.

10. Yale University – New Haven, Conn.

Yale University, the third-oldest university in the US, dropped from No. 9 in in 2011 to No. 10 in 2012.  The first international student – from Latin America – enrolled at Yale in 1830. The school has graduated many US leaders, including five presidents and 17 Supreme Court justices.
Reputation for teaching (as a percentage of top-ranking Harvard’s score): 32.8
Reputation for research (as a percentage of top-ranking Harvard’s score): 32.3

Times Higher Education also produces an annual , which takes into account teaching, research, industry income, faculty citations, and reputation. Yale was No. 11 in the 2011- 2012 rankings, which came out in October 2011.
