Tour de France 101: Americans to watch in 2011

Seven-time Tour winner Lance Armstrong isn't riding this year, but there are plenty of other fast Americans in the race. Here are six of them, with their team affiliations:

1. Tyler Farrar, Garmin-Cerv茅lo

US cyclist Tyler Farrar crosses the finish line to win the third stage of the Tour de France on July 4. Farrar formed a "W'' with his fingers and thumbs to honor his friend and training partner Wouter Weylandt, who died in a crash during the Giro d'Italia in May.

After his best friend and training partner Wouter Weylandt died during a crash in May鈥檚 Giro D鈥橧talia, Tyler Farrar wasn鈥檛 sure if he would ride in this year鈥檚 Tour de France. Now he鈥檚 no doubt glad he made the decision to race 鈥 the sprint specialist from Wenatchee, Wash., won his first-ever stage on July 4 and has helped his Garmin-Cerv茅lo team to a dream Tour start.
