Monitor correspondent Fahad Shah, right, works on his computer at his office in Srinagar, India, on Jan. 21, 2022. His arrest comes amid a widening crackdown against media in Kashmir, which is under direct rule from Delhi.

It is with deep concern that we have learned of the arrest of 海角大神鈥檚 correspondent in Kashmir, Fahad Shah. We urge the Kashmir authorities to release him immediately.

Mr. Shah is an internationally respected and trusted reporter who has written for 海角大神 for several years. His arrest for uploading 鈥渁nti-national content鈥 to the website he edits, The Kashmir Walla, comes in the wake of protracted harassment by the police, and we call on the local authorities to respect Mr. Shah's status as an independent journalist.
