I used to love seeing the world in shades of gray through my viewfinder. But for聽many years now I鈥檝e worked in full color, only occasionally dabbling in black and聽white. Sometimes when I鈥檓 on vacation, I prefer to leave the camera aside with聽work. But whenever I visit Mexico, I can鈥檛 stop taking photos. I鈥檓 constantly inspired.
On a recent trip to San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato, I was overtaken by聽color.
Ancient weathered doors in turquoise pop against walls of amber and burnt聽orange.聽A mural garden of pink and yellow flowers makes its way up an outdoor聽stairway.
Market displays of plastic toys, candies, yarn, or house goods become聽works of art. Traditional women鈥檚 and men鈥檚 blouses, the fabric in their skirts and聽pants, stand out against an azure background during a dance performance. Intricate聽beaded bracelets are offered in a stall 鈥 how can one ever choose which to buy?
Nowhere I鈥檝e been is more colorful than Mexico 鈥 where it seems that everyone聽has a bit of an artist inside them.
