Mexico vs. South Africa on Day 1 of World Cup schedule

It's Mexico vs. South Africa, followed by Uruguay vs. France, in the opening matches of the World Cup schedule. ESPN will have live coverage, or you can watch World Cup 2010 online 鈥 for a fee.

The first match of the World Cup kicks off today, with Mexico taking on host nation South Africa.

American musician R Kelly headlined a pre-match ceremony that included 1,500 performers showcasing music and dance from the six African countries participating in the tournament.

"This is the best opening ceremony I've ever seen. It is brilliant," The Guardian wrote in its .

Nelson Mandela, originally expected to attend the opening match, following the tragic death of his great-granddaughter, who was killed in a car accident Thursday night.
