Rescued migrants arrive in Italy. Now what?

European聽rescue聽boats聽are聽bringing聽thousands聽of聽migrants聽saved聽at sea聽to聽Italian聽ports,聽prompting聽center-right聽politicians聽to聽vow聽that their regions聽won't聽shelter聽any more of them.
Arriving by the hundreds Sunday were some of the nearly 3,500聽migrants聽rescued聽a day earlier in the Mediterranean聽Sea聽from unseaworthy聽boats聽launched by Libya-based smugglers.
Liguria Gov. Giovanni Toti, elected just last week, was among the northern Italian聽politicians聽vowing聽to refuse to host any more聽migrants聽while asylum requests are being evaluated. Toti's candidacy was backed by his mentor, former聽center-right聽Premier Silvio Berlusconi, and by the anti-immigrant Northern League party, which surged in support in the聽regional聽balloting.
Rome-based investigators, meanwhile, are alleging some local聽politicians聽have taken lucrative kickbacks for contracts to feed and聽shelter聽migrants.
