Why does Rob Ford continue to grab headlines, now delivering shock and awe not only to Torontonians and Canadians, but to bemused observers around the world?

Many pundits have attributed Ford鈥檚 2010 electoral victory to a deep disconnect between 鈥渄owntown鈥 city voters, who tend to vote liberal, and 鈥渟uburban鈥 city voters, who tend to be more conservative in their outlook. That could help explain why polls continue to show that, notwithstanding Ford's less-than-professional behavior,  remains supportive of him staying in office until the next elections or he is legally removed.

Illustrating at least one aspect of his persistent popularity, Ford attended a game Sunday of the Toronto Argonauts, the city鈥檚 professional Canadian Football League team, and was given what the Globe and Mail newspaper called 鈥渞ock star treatment鈥 by fans. As one voter told The Associated Press over the weekend: "Yes, he is an embarrassment, but not a thief.鈥
