The South Korean seemed poised to become the first golfer of either gender to win a calendar Grand Slam in the modern era, by winning four major championships. She secured wins in the year鈥檚 first three majors 鈥� the Kraft Nabisco Championship, LPGA Championship, and US Women鈥檚 Open 鈥� and entered the Women鈥檚 British Open at St. Andrews, Scotland, as the favorite. But she never found her 鈥淎鈥� game in the blustery conditions and finished well off the lead.
Still, she could win a fourth Slam tournament because this year the LPGA has designated the Evian Championship in France as a fifth major. Whether a victory in that event, held Sept. 12-15, would really be viewed as completing a Grand Slam is questionable, but at least it would merit an asterisk in the record books.
