Try as he might, Tiger Woods could not get past a recurring leg injury and in the US Open, scheduled to start June 16 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
It's the first time Woods in the national championship since the 1994 US Open, when he had just graduated from high school.
Woods announced his decision on both his website and Twitter account: "Not playing in US Open. Very disappointed. Short-term frustration for long-term gain."
Tiger was of the Masters in April. He rested his leg and tried to play in the , near Jacksonville, but could only manage nine holes in the first round before withdrawing from that event.
Woods hopes to be ready for the at the end of June, then play in the season's final two majors, the British Open in July and the PGA Championship in August.
