Actor and New Mexico resident Val Kilmer sits on the rostrum in the House of Representatives briefly, Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 in Santa Fe, N.M. Fresh from the inauguration Kilmer is pondering the pull of public service. Some "serious people" want him to consider running for governor, he said in an interview with The Associated Press.

Well, why not?

Val Kilmer already saved Gotham City, not to mention . He could run the Land of Enchantment, couldn't he?

The big-time actor who starred in , , , and the vastly underappreciated , is thinking about running for governor of New Mexico.

Celebrities always win

Kilmer, who's lived in the state for 20 years, hasn't dodged the discussion. He's been quite open about it.

"There are a lot of actors who become politicians," he told the last month mentioning Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. "And they always win, so I guess we'll see."

Contributive

The registered Democrat told the Associated Press yesterday he's in no rush to make up his mind, saying it is a "day to day" decision.

"I鈥檓 just looking for ways to be contributive," Kilmer said. "And if that ends up being where I can make a substantial contribution, then I鈥檒l run."

You can be my wingman

If he does run, he sounds as confident as his character in Top Gun or Tombstone.

"If I run, I鈥檓 going to be the next governor," Iceman Kilmer predicted.

Nader?

Although a supporter of President Obama, the actor didn't donate to his campaign. Instead, he donated $4,600 to the Ralph Nader campaign.

Not everyone appears to be entirely supportive. The entertainment website wonders if it is a sign of the apocalypse.
