Did Time magazine give Hillary horns?

The letter 'M,' when partly obscured by a head, has a tendency to make the head's owner to take on a rather diabolical aspect.

The cover of the current issue of Time magazine feaures Hillary Clinton. Are those horns deliberate?

Hillary has horns.

That's the giddy sentiment circulating the blogosphere after the latest issue of Time hit newsstands.

The cover story, by David Von Drehle, considers the Clintons' penchant for operating under their own rules, as highlighted by the hubbub over Hillary Rodham Clinton's use of a private e-mail account as Secretary of State.

"Along with her husband 鈥 the 42nd President of the United States 鈥 Hillary Clinton is the co-creator of a soap-operatic political universe in which documents vanish, words like this take on multiple meanings and foes almost always overplay their hand. Impeachment can be a route to higher approval ratings; the occasional (and rare) defeat merely marks the start of the next campaign. Whatever rules may apply to them, the law of gravity is not one," Drehle writes.

But it's the cover photo that has everyone talking.

In it, Mrs. Clinton is a black silhouette against a blue background, her head placed just so beneath the 'M' in 'Time' such that the two spikes of the letter 'M' form a very subtle (or not so subtle?) pair of horns.

Many on Twitter found it devilishly funny.

Besides eliciting a chuckle, the cover left some unanswered questions.

Like, did Time notice?

Editors spend hours agonizing over magazine covers, arguing over nuances like spacing, shading, and fading. It seems unlikely that no one spotted the horns sprouting from Hillary's head.

But why?聽For this, we turn again to the blogosphere, where overanalyzing is an art form.

"If this is a signal that even the mainstream media, notorious for being gatekeepers for the Clintons, is turning on Clinton, it is certainly bad news for someone Democrats view as being .

"Are the long knives out?" . "[Are the] liberals eating their own now?"

"I guess this means the media are going all-in for Elizabeth Warren. Hillary is just too 'yesterday.' ... The media want a fresh face."

Perhaps. But maybe the horns could just be an inevitable consequence of having the letter M in your publication's name.聽

As Time itself pointed out, it's not the first time it's happened. Hillary has joined a veritable , joining the ranks of three popes, George Bush, Bill Clinton (twice), Barack Obama, FDR, Abraham Lincoln, Angelina Jolie, Bill Gates, Darth Vader, and even Jesus, who have received the horn treatment in covers past.
