Jeb Bush, governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007, is actively exploring a run for president. As a member of the Bush political dynasty, Jeb already has a famous name. But what did he do as governor, and what has he done since?

4. Bush fought to prolong Terri Schiavo鈥檚 life

As governor, Bush didn鈥檛 shy away from controversy 鈥 or his faith-driven views on life. And in the case of Terri Schiavo, a Florida woman on life support who had been declared brain-dead by doctors, Bush got involved in the legal battle. In 2003, after Mrs. Schiavo鈥檚 feeding tube was removed, the Florida legislature passed a bill granting Bush the right to intervene. He did, ordering the tube reinserted. The law was eventually found unconstitutional. Schiavo died in 2005.

Bush also approved Florida鈥檚 鈥淐hoose Life鈥 license plate. In 2005, he signed a measure requiring parental notification for teenage girls before an abortion.

Bush was raised Episcopal, but in the 1990s converted to Roman Catholicism, his wife鈥檚 faith.
