Mr. Summers, Obama鈥檚 economic adviser early in his presidency, once invited Warren to dinner when she was chairwoman of the congressional panel overseeing TARP, the Troubled Asset Relief Program. They met at the Bombay Club, a quiet, classy Indian restaurant near the White House.
As the evening wore on, Warren describes Summers guzzling Diet Coke, and a table 鈥渟trewn with bits of food and spilled sauces.鈥 Then she relays his advice to her: 鈥淚 had a choice. I could be an insider or an outsider. Outsiders can say whatever they want. But people on the inside don鈥檛 listen to them.鈥
And this: 鈥淚nsiders understand one unbreakable rule: They don鈥檛 criticize other insiders. I had been warned.鈥
