Idle talk of a possible candidacy by Secretary of State Kerry sprang up in February, when the Democrats鈥 2004 nominee if he would ever consider trying again. Kerry鈥檚 response: 鈥淣obody says never.鈥
Of course, that was before Hillary Clinton got into the race. Now, as with Biden, the only way Kerry would ever conceivably get back into presidential politics would be if something happened to Clinton. But in that event, the nation鈥檚 chief diplomat could probably be persuaded to put his political hat back on and try again. Kerry represented Massachusetts in the Senate for 28 years, and before that was the state鈥檚 lieutenant governor.
If it turns out 2016 is a 鈥渇oreign policy election,鈥 then Kerry could be well-positioned. Of course, much depends on how his diplomatic efforts turn out 鈥 especially in Iran, Russia, China, and Cuba.
