This is something US officials have intimated, but Pfarrer goes a step further, asserting that 鈥渙fficers from Pakistan鈥檚 ISI ... periodically checked in on [bin Laden].鈥
There is no way that bin Laden 鈥渃ould have existed in Pakistan without the ISI鈥檚 compliance 鈥 it鈥檚 impossible,鈥 Pfarrer says, referring to Pakistan's spy agency, the Inter Services Intelligence directorate.
Before the strike on bin Laden鈥檚 compound, many in the SEAL community believed that bin Laden was dead, but that 鈥渢he ISI was concealing his death because they needed to keep the money flowing.鈥
But the entire time, Pfarrer writes, 鈥淭he Pakistani ISI knew exactly where he was, but did not inform the United States. They continued to let Osama pace back and forth in his compound. They must have wondered, as did his family, if he were going insane."
