Hugo Chavez: 10 outrageous things he said about the US

Hugo Chavez, whose death was announced Tuesday, will be remembered worldwide as much for what he said as for what he did during his 14-year rule of Venezuela. From the vitriolic to bizarre, here is a list of 10 outrageous comments he made about the 鈥淵ankee empire鈥� and its leaders.

10. Cancer as a weapon

More than a year before his death, Ch谩vez said it was possible that the US caused the cancer he had been diagnosed with. And not just in regard to him, but all the leftist Latin American leaders who have been diagnosed: Cristina Fern谩ndez of Argentina, former President Fernando Lugo of Paraguay, Dilma Rousseff of Brazil, and former Brazilian leader Luiz In谩cio Lula da Silva.

鈥淚t鈥檚 very difficult to explain, even with the law of probabilities, what has been happening to us in Latin America,鈥� he said during a military speech in December 2011. 鈥淲ould it be so strange that they鈥檝e invented technology to spread cancer, and we won鈥檛 know about it for 50 years?鈥�
