WikiLeaks documents: five world leaders disparaged by US diplomats

World leaders smile and back-slap like old friends at summit meeting photo-ops. But behind the bonhomie they may be judging each other鈥檚 strengths and weaknesses with the brutal candor of high school students sizing up rivals.

The huge cache of diplomatic cables made public by WikiLeaks contain frank assessments of many top geopolitical players 鈥� and predictions as to how their personalities might affect US politics.

1. Italy's Silvio Berlusconi

Embattled Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi may soon lose political power, as his governing right-wing coalition seems close to collapse. So he has other things to worry about than how he is described by US diplomats 鈥� which may be a good thing, as the description of him in WikiLeaks cables is not positive.

Berlusconi 鈥� whose reputation as a playboy precedes him 鈥� is said in US dispatches to be someone whose 鈥渇requent late nights and penchant for partying hard mean he does not get sufficient rest.鈥�

If that鈥檚 not bad enough, he is summed up as 鈥渇eckless, vain, and ineffective as a modern European leader.鈥�
