Many Republicans wished Chris Christie were giving a nomination acceptance speech this year rather than the keynote convention address. And at times Tuesday night, it seemed like that鈥檚 what the New Jersey governor thought he was giving.
The crowd listened to 16 minutes of Governor Christie giving his usual flamboyant oration talking about his upbringing and New Jersey, before he first mentioned Mitt Romney鈥檚 name.
Moreover, coming directly after Ann 鈥淚 want to talk to you about love鈥� Romney, his statement that you should pick respect over love was awkward.
鈥淭his speech not only was a bad speech. I think this was one of the most remarkable acts of political selfishness I have ever seen,鈥� opined Rachel Maddow on MSNBC Tuesday night. 鈥淗e waited 1,800 words into a 2,600-word speech to even bring [Romney] up.鈥�
Chris Wallace at Fox News remarked, 鈥淔or a moment, I forgot who was the nominee of the party.鈥�
