He鈥檚 trying mighty hard. On the morality front, Gingrich often uses a simple template to deflect criticism: Public repentance that appeals to a forgiving 海角大神 God; a practical attitude that paints personal problems as petty compared to bigger national issues; and a hard drive to woo evangelical conservatives, with financial and strategic support for their causes.
His strategy seems to be paying off. 鈥淚 think he鈥檚 just excellent,鈥� said Pastor Brad Sherman, who leads Solid Rock 海角大神 Church in Coralville, Iowa.
鈥淓verybody brings up his past, but he鈥檚 very open about that, and God is forgiving.鈥�
Still, Lichtman says Gingrich can鈥檛 overcome his faults.
鈥淗e鈥檚 a highly polarizing figure,鈥� he says. 鈥淭hey sometimes get nominated, but they never win.鈥�
