Joe Miller, Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, waves to supporters Tuesday, Nov. 2 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Joe Miller, Alaska鈥檚 Republican candidate for the US Senate, may or may not be a tea party winner. This is another race that is seen as a test of the Republican establishment versus tea party conservatives.

Final results in the Alaska race may not be known until Nov. 18.

Miller 鈥 a West Point graduate, former US Army tank commander, and Yale law school grad 鈥 beat incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the Republican primary. His campaign was backed by tea party activists and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

But Murkowski didn鈥檛 give up. She mounted a write-in campaign and currently the results of the Nov. 2 election won鈥檛 be known until the write-in ballots are sorted and tallied.

During the campaign, Miller said he would support a balanced budget amendment to the US Constitution. He opposes federal farm subsidies, the federal minimum wage, and unemployment benefits. He would close the US Department of Education. If elected, he would vote to repeal the health care reforms enacted by Congress in 2010. He says evidence of global warming is 鈥渄ubious at best.鈥
