In a Tuesday, April 26, 2016 news release, the Mississippi Department of Education says the graduation rate has increased significantly from 2011 to 2015 while dropout rates have decreased. The rise in the high school graduation rate means the state is getting closer to the national average.

Between 2006 and 2015, the high school graduation rate increased by almost 10 percentage points, driven mainly by a spike from 2009-12. But even as the national rate of increase slowed, graduation rates for black and Hispanic students increased by respectively from 2011 to 2015 鈥 far above the average increase nationwide of 4.2 percentage points for the same period.
