The 鈥渁lligators in the moat鈥� idea referenced a tongue-in-cheek comment President Obama made while speaking on immigration reform in Texas in May. 鈥淭hey鈥檒l want a higher fence. Maybe they鈥檒l need a moat. Maybe they鈥檒l want alligators in the moat. They鈥檒l never be satisfied,鈥� Mr. Obama said.
Cain later said the quote was in jest, and he responded to critics with another one-liner, 鈥淎merica has got to learn how to take a joke.鈥�
