Here's which network is the standout in this year's Emmy nominations

Some of the nominees for this year鈥檚 Emmy Awards include network contenders like 鈥淏lack-ish鈥� and 鈥淢odern Family鈥� as well as cable and streaming offers like 鈥淏etter Call Saul鈥� and 鈥淢aster of None.鈥� New programs from FX, nominated for some of the prizes, demonstrate the breadth of the network鈥檚 offerings.聽
HBO's 鈥淕ame of Thrones,鈥� which won the best drama Emmy Award last year, received the most nominations, but a couple of developments involving FX show the network鈥檚 current strength.聽
FX is the network behind 鈥淎merican Crime Story鈥� (not the TV show 鈥淎merican Crime,鈥� which airs on ABC 鈥� yes, it鈥檚 confusing). In its debut story, the TV show focused on the trial of O.J. Simpson and the season received rave reviews. Actors were honored by the Emmys for their work on the show, too 鈥� Cuba Gooding Jr. and Courtney B. Vance received nominations for best actor in a limited series or movie, while Sarah Paulson received a nomination for best actress in a limited series or movie. Sterling K. Brown, David Schwimmer, and John Travolta all received nominations for best supporting actor in a limited series or movie.
All these nods helped 鈥淪impson鈥� achieve the second-most nominations this year, behind only 鈥淭hrones.鈥澛�
Meanwhile, a long-acclaimed show from FX received Emmy nods in major categories this year for the first time. 鈥淭he Americans,鈥� which stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys and depicts Russian spies living in America during the Cold War, was nominated for best drama series and Ms. Russell and Mr. Rhys were nominated in their respective categories as well.

The programs vying for the best limited series Emmy are 鈥淩oots,鈥� 鈥淭he People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,鈥� 鈥淭he Night Manager,鈥� 鈥淔argo,鈥� and 鈥淎merican Crime.鈥澛�
The actresses nominated for best actress in a drama series are 鈥淗ouse of Cards鈥� actress Robin Wright, 鈥淭he Americans鈥� actress Keri Russell, 鈥淥rphan Black鈥� actress Tatiana Maslany, 鈥淓mpire鈥� actress Taraji P. Henson, 鈥淗ow to Get Away With Murder鈥� actress Viola Davis, and 鈥淗omeland鈥� actress Claire Danes.聽
Kyle Chandler of 鈥淏loodline,鈥� Rami Malek of 鈥淢r. Robot,鈥� Bob Odenkirk of 鈥淏etter Call Saul,鈥� Matthew Rhys of 鈥淭he Americans,鈥� Liev Schreiber of 鈥淩ay Donovan,鈥� and Kevin Spacey of 鈥淗ouse of Cards鈥� are nominated for best actor in a drama series.聽
The contenders for best actor in a comedy series are 鈥淭ransparent鈥� actor Jeffrey Tambor, 鈥淪ilicon Valley鈥� actor Thomas Middleditch, 鈥淪hameless鈥� actor William H. Macy, 鈥淟ast Man on Earth鈥� actor Will Forte, 鈥淢aster of None鈥� actor Aziz Ansari, and 鈥淏lack-ish鈥� actor Anthony Anderson.聽
Ellie Kemper of 鈥淯nbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,鈥� Julia Louis-Dreyfus of 鈥淰eep,鈥� Laurie Metcalf of 鈥淕etting On,鈥� Tracee Ellis Ross of 鈥淏lack-ish,鈥� Amy Schumer of 鈥淚nside Amy Schumer,鈥� and Lily Tomlin of 鈥淕race and Frankie鈥� are nominated for best actress in a comedy series.
Jonathan Banks of 鈥淏etter Call Saul,鈥� Ben Mendelsohn of 鈥淏loodline,鈥� Peter Dinklage of 鈥淕ame of Thrones,鈥� Kit Harington of 鈥淕ame of Thrones,鈥� Michael Kelly of 鈥淗ouse of Cards,鈥� and Jon Voight of 鈥淩ay Donovan鈥� are nominated for the best supporting actor in a drama series prize, while Maggie Smith of 鈥淒ownton Abbey,鈥� Lena Headey of 鈥淕ame of Thrones,鈥� Emilia Clarke of 鈥淕ame of Thrones,鈥� Maisie Williams of 鈥淕ame of Thrones,鈥� Maura Tierney of 鈥淭he Affair,鈥� and Constance Zimmer of 鈥淯nREAL鈥� are nominated for best supporting actress in a drama series.聽
