Where to Begin

A poem.

Where to begin Five windows
听were all I could afford. And so
听I hung them in the air and set a chair
听beside each one. Found cats
听to sit upon their sills. Some days
I sat and gazed
听into a dark wood, cool
听and sown through with thrush music,
听yellow flickers, lady slippers spinning
听on their stems and when
a ceiling slowly formed and hovered there
听for months and into years, I waited,
听watching, until walls
听filled in the space
听between them all.
