Simplicity

A poem.

Simplicity As if to change my mind, to keep me here,
听that rose put on a show this year!
听She budded far too soon 鈥 in early May 鈥
听and seemed to know I could or would not stay
听my hand, but needs must pick a small
听听听听 bouquet
听to sit beside me through my busy day.
听It drew my eyes 鈥 their every upward glance
听was caught by roses bending in a dance.
听The chorus flared their ruffled skirts at me,
听and, waiting to unfurl her frock, I'd see
听the premi猫re听danseuse, a tapered bud
听of Renoir blush that whispered ardent blood.
听Romantic fallacy? Of course, I know.
听But still, that rose was putting on a show.
